What’s official about New Zealand accommodation?
New Zealand tourism has a official grading system for New Zealand accommodation. It’s called the Qualmark and has been in existence since 1994. With Qualmark, accommodation in New Zealand is independently assessed according to a set of national quality standards.
Qualmark is voluntary so as with any standard set up to monitor hotels and other accommodation it’s only as good as the participants. You will find though the usual suspects involved i.e. the major hotels, New Zealand’s luxury inns and boutique accommodation New Zealand. There is comfort to be found in being able to depend on certain standards when it comes to travelling and holidays.
If you like the idea of a New Zealand tourism standard then drag yourself over to the Qualmark website and have a nose around. But you get to apply your own Qualmark before you get to the shores of New Zealand by checking out all the independent reviews out there.
A final word my friends. New Zealanders want you to discover their country. They are mighty proud of their island home and it’s extraordinarily diverse and beautiful landscape. The quality and availability of accommodation in New Zealand reflects the significance of how important you are!
As Allen Curnow the unofficial New Zealand poet laureate says in his poem Landfall in unknown seas,"Simply by sailing in a new direction you could enlarge the world."
