Cheap flights New Zealand with a domestic carrier have been pretty humdrum until now. There’s a new kid on the block and he’s called Jetstar. Kind of like Australia’s version of Easyjet or Ryan Air if you know and love some of Europe’s no frills carriers.

Jetstar have just started operations over the Tasman Sea in New Zealand. Owned by Quantas, Jetstar fly between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown (and combinations of the four of course!)

Not only that they fly to the Gold Coast, Melbourne (from Christchurch) Brisbane and Sydney. Jetstar’s airfare New Zealand looks pretty competitive at domestic level. It’s around 40 bucks for a one-way ticket from Auckland to Christchurch so as airfare New Zealand prices go it does the business.

Make sure you know the frills and spills of booking low cost airlines. Things like weight restriction, hand luggage number of pieces and the big one for all of us… booking in before they decide to close the gate. No frills airlines are big on this so get to the airport in time!

Jetstar fly the Airbus A320-200. It carries about 177 passengers and has two things worthy of note; the leather seats and the unfeasibly wide aisle so no more squeezing against a stranger on your way to the toilet.

• This Booking is non-refundable. Customers who do not check-in for their booked flight within the required time will forfeit their fare.

• Subject to availability and payment of all applicable amounts, limited changes can be made to your booking as follows… Only date, time and passenger name changes are permitted, subject to availability. Changes to the origin or destination of travel are not permitted.

JetFlex

• This Booking is refundable if your original booking was made as a JetFlex fare though a refund fee will apply.

• Subject to availability and payment of all applicable amounts, changes can be made to your booking as follows… For date, time, origin and destination changes, your new fare will be at least the amount of the fare you originally purchased, and may be more.

• Date, time, origin, destination and passenger name changes may be made.

Jetstar have had a few teething problems since launch with their time slots and passengers have had some delays. Not a patch on the debacle of British Airways and the opening of Terminal 5 at Heathrow so rest assured you will get to where you are going as will your bags!
