Choice! • So many camping grounds… Orewa near Waiwera with beach barbeques and masses of swimmings and fun. • The Auckland Sky Tower and the geothermals around Rotorua. 90 Mile Beach with a breeze and clouds scudding overhead, then up to Cape Reinga for contemplation, history, education and beauty… sigh! • The Gold Mining town of Waihi at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula, close to the western end of the Bay of Plenty
• The outstanding lush green fringes, golden sands and clear waters of Pakiri Beach, Cooks Beach, Hahei & Cathedral Cove. Just a handful of thousands tucked away along the New Zealand shoreline.• The butterfly house at Thames. • In the North, well North West discover Waiheke and Bethells for just chilling out in great company with the locals. Tramping in the Waitakeres of course and the Cascades too. • Centennial Park in Birkenhead on the North Shore is a treasure. Wander beneath silent kauri trees full of fantails and tuis calling you. Slip down to Kendall's Bay when the tide is out and check out the view of Auckland…

The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page... ok... I had thought I had finished this page for a bit but Charley has told me to put in my favourite matchless New Zealand holiday experience, or at least my fondest memory...
That's easy, one of my fondest memories is New Years Eve and New Years day up in the Leigh District of the North Island at The Leigh Sawmill Café. In a small stones throw of the Hauraki Gulf, Leigh nestles and jostles (coz it's got hills) close to Goat Island Marine Reserve, Pakiri Beach, Matheson Bay, the Tawharanui Regional Park and Little Barrier Island.
This is awesome country my travelling friends... this is matchless New Zealand holidays at its best. Dinner at the Sawmill then a wander in the suns setting golden rays as they spill over the hills. Long deep shadows are the curtain to another fabulous day.I enjoyed (yes that meant dancing too!) live music outside among the tiers of landscaped gardens, then in the early hours flat on my back in thick grass overlooking the Sawmill gazing at the stars that seemed to flood the night sky from every corner. We camped in a field next to the mill that night so don't know if they still have that facility but it is well worth asking. In the morning it was breakfast, well Okay... brunch with bloody marys and a swim out at Goat island. You can if you fancy take a dive at the Goat Island Marine Reserve or charter a boat to fish or take in the extraordinary wildlife... including dolphins, whales, sharks, gannets and albatross to name a few. If you want to get precise they're at 142 Pakiri Rd, Leigh. New Zealand. Telephone +64 9 422 6019 Email:info@sawmillcafe.co.nz
