New Zealand Flag To Change Or Not To Change
The New Zealand flag is always up for discussion with some folk. So here are the main pointers about having an entirely new flag and the reasons not to.Proponents for change argue that the current flag:
* Is similar to and can be confused with the Australian flag (but not if you read our pages! You'll know all you need!) * With the whole Blue Ensign thing it still alludes to New Zealand being a part of the United Kingdom. * It ignores New Zealand's collective heritage including the Maori. * Has little connection with the land which is a major part of New Zealand culture, international relations and standing. * Too many colours and designs on the flag.

Opponents to change argue that the current flag: * Was chosen by New Zealanders. * Evokes an emotional response in New Zealander's. * Represents the history of the country as a part of the British Empire and its southern hemisphere location. * Is a colourful and memorable design. * No new flag design suggested so far should replace the current one. * It's the ensign, the banner that New Zealander's have carried, fought and died for. * Has represented the country for over a century.
