Easter can fall as early as 22 March or as late as 25 April. This is because it falls on the first Sunday after the Full Moon that occurs on or after the Spring Equinox (21 March). If the Full Moon falls on a Sunday then Easter is the celebrated the following Sunday. Why Easter eggs? I hear some of you ask. In pagan celebrations (long time ago for you and me) the egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the earth in spring. This was adopted by early Christians as a celebration of new life. So something to get eggcited about on your New Zealand holiday's especially if they're chocolate... mmmm... Good Friday, also called Holy Friday is the Friday preceding Easter Sunday (Passover). It commemorates the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. So if you're in New Zealand at Easter keep a cultural eye open for this public holiday enjoyed by the population of New Zealand.
