Wine Holidays in New Zealand
are divine!

Wine holidays in New Zealand. Mmm… I can just smell the bouquet! Can’t you? Or perhaps you simply enjoy good wine in a wonderful setting be it city or countryside.

What is a wine holiday then? Are you confined to a damp cellar in a starched shirt admiring the vast knowledge of your host yet secretly yearning to be outside in the sun sipping a sauvignon with your feet up?

Well, that isn’t a New Zealand wine holiday that’s for sure!

Tours of New Zealand wineries are fun, relaxed, informative, flexible and very tasty! If you just want to dip your toe (or your nose!) as it were then perhaps choose a day tour. Wander around the vines, take in the New Zealand scenery, have a tasting, expand your knowledge, enjoy a great lunch or dinner....

Phil’s been on a couple of 1 day tours and from the look on his face at the end of it he’s enjoyed every minute! If New Zealand Wine is a hobby of yours, or you just want to spend more time learning about New Zealand wineries then there are longer tours and wine holidays in New Zealand for you to choose from.

Maybe you just want to pop in and have a nose around the cellar? If so, call the winery direct and they are usually happy to accommodate you.

Organised half and full day wine tours generally involve visiting several wineries and having a meal at a winery restaurant. You can also sign up for longer tours that visit several of New Zealand’s wine regions and include accommodation and food.

Oh yes… and wine! When looking for wine holidays in New Zealand keep an eye out for these major wine-growing regions. They will lead you to unforgettable New Zealand wine experiences.

From north to south…

• Northland, Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury and Central Otago

New Zealand grape growers and winemakers are not only proud of their soil and landscape they know how important it is to keeping New Zealand wines uppermost in peoples minds and mouths!

Sustainable winegrowing New Zealand is a set of Industry Standards to ensure protection of the environment in relation to wine production.

Ernest Hemingway memorably said that “Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.” Well he was a writer wasn’t he!

Wine Holidays in New Zealand
There are something like 500 wineries dotted throughout the New Zealand scenery from the far north to the distant south. So get ready to know your Pinot Noir from your Sauvignon, your Gewürztraminer from your Chardonnay and taste them all! You are in the right place to experience this journey with wine holidays in New Zealand!

Most of the major wineries have their own programmes for visitors so you can contact them directly for opening times.

So come on! Check out Blenheim and wander around Seymour Square before heading to Queen Street and the d'Urville. A restaurant that’s a wine and food lovers haven and highly recommended by just about everyone we’ve come across!

Or how about some of Auckland's best and newest wineries on Waiheke Island? Just a watertaxi ride from downtown Auckland with many a good restaurant to enjoy.

New Zealand is a great place for wine tourism. In our opinion no wine-producing country does a better job of welcoming tourists.

Why not taste some New Zealand wines before you travel? Make a note of the ones you like and research the vineyards and winemakers. This doesn’t just have to be a shopping trip to the merchant or supermarket you know!

If you want to try a good cross section of quality New Zealand wine then we’ll share the fabulous wine merchant Phil orders from.

Doug and Cara ably assisted by Shane and Kim own and run Wood Winters Wine Merchants. They carry some of the best wines we’ve ever had the fortune to imbibe and their award winning wine list is a roll call of many of the best producers from around the world including of course New Zealand. Hurrah!

If you’re in Scotland you’re lucky, just pop into their shop at 16 Henderson Street, Bridge of Allan near Stirling. Or, like me, you’re flaming miles away then no problem just order online. If you’re stuck give them a call and they’ll help you out.

New Zealand is justifiably proud of its meteoric yet nurtured rise on the world wine stage. If you are going to enjoy a wine tour or holiday anywhere then wine holidays in New Zealand are the best introduction possible to good wine and excellent company on the other side of the world!
